"Desert Road"
© David A. Ziser
I created this image while on the way to Lake Las Vegas earlier this year. The desert was fairly plain looking in high afternoon sun. It was only after I cropped out the mountain tops, converted the image to black and white, and increased the contrast that it started to get interesting. Now view the image composed of two shapes, the S-curve of the road in the left part of the frame and the smooth road curve at the bottom of the composition, framed against the textures of the desert. The image takes on an almost abstract quality which I feel is quite intriguing. The balance of curved "Blacks" against the "Textured" greys, creates a nice play of tonalities independent of the reality of the scene. Camera specs: Canon 30D with 17-85mm lens at 75mm; F14 @ 1/500 second at ISO 400. Enjoy! --David
