Heading Across The Alps and Into Germany Today

Good Morning Everyone,

ISalzburg11 must tell you, our stay  in Schladming, Austria has been absolutely wonderful this past week.  Beginning with my Salzburg photo-walk last Saturday [link], and then following up with two more visits to that wonderfully charming city and our Sound of Music day [link] was a great travel experience.  LaDawn and I both think we should have spent one more day in Salzburg to see a few more of the sites that we missed but that will give us an excuse to return one day.

The other highlights of the week included the wonderful weather we enjoyed most of the week which has allowed us to take in the gorgeous scenery that is everywhere around Schladming. Even the cloudy days were beautiful because of how the clouds rolled through the mountains. Hiking, castle tour, a falconry presentation, ice cave, hiking some more, fall color peeking into the vistas, cows, horses, sheep sprinkled along the hillsides, flower boxes on nearly every chateau - all incredible highlights that we soon won’t forget and will forever bring back incredible memories!

Top Of The Day

Every time we look out over the mountains, even from our hotel balcony the next sight was even more beautiful than the last.  Be sure to check my post “Dancing With The Light Fantastic” [link].  It really shows what a visual and photographic adventure we’ve had these last seven days.

Snow1

One of nicest surprises though was waking Friday morning with up to 8 inches of beautiful snowfall covering the mountains right outside our bedroom window.  The snow began falling about 11:30 p.m. Thursday night and kept up most of the evening.  It was one of those heavy, wet snows that cover the trees so beautifully.  The snow continued throughout the morning but then began to let up about 11:30 a.m.  Even in the mist and fog through-out the scene was just beautiful.

Snow3But, as we been finding here all week, wait a few hours and the weather will surly change.  And change it did.  In the afternoon  the sun broke through and gently kissed the mountain tops with it’s gentle light.  We made one more run up the mountain road to see what things looked like from the top.  What can I say, the views take your breath away!

Here are just a few images from yesterday’s beautiful snowy photo adventure.  It was a real treat. Hope you also enjoy!

Hey gang, that’s it for me today. I’ve got three more posts in the works that I’ll get up as soon and I can once we get settled into our next stop in Germany. Good stuff, so stay tuned.

Mondi Holiday OberstaaufenToday we head over the Alps to Oberstaufen, Germany [pics] and continue our adventure in another part of the world where we have never been. Oberstaufen [link] in nestled in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps near Switzerland. The surrounding scenery is, I hear, simply breathtaking with mountains and gently rolling hillsides. The resort looks to have lots to keep us busy including a spa, heated indoor pool, sauna, hiking trails – a big favorite for LaDawn and I - squash and even bowling!

Anyway, it looks like it’s going to another fantastic week of fun, adventure, and photography in the Alps.  Check back soon and I show you some of the sights.

See you soon,  David
